Maybe this is just a flatlander thing to do but we don’t have any many tunnels in the Midwest, so as we drive through a tunnel, I always ask DH to honk the horn and if he won’t, as every good wife would, I lean over and honk it for him.
It’s just one of those things I’ve always enjoyed. I’m so predictable about it that he says before I even ask, as we approach one, “I am not honking the horn.” What a killjoy!
DH thinks it’s quite possibly one of the most redneck, hick things to do. Our dear friends, Gary & Judy who are traveling with us, are with me on this one though and even rolled down their windows and hollered just to hear the echo.
Here’s my poll…
When you drive through a tunnel, do you honk your horn just to hear the echo?
You can tell me if it makes me a total redneck, I can take it. After all, I is what I is!
How fun... Yes I honk, always... proud of it too! And yeah I might have a little redneck... or maybe more like rebel. hehehe.

I am more reserved, but Louie is like you. We can be driving down the road, and as someone is approaching us from the other direction, all of a sudden, he will sit up straight, lean forward, reach his arm out and wave like crazy at someone as they are right by us. I'll say, 'Who was that?' He'll say, 'I don't know, but they are now wondering who we are!'. He makes me laugh...all the time.
ReplyDeleteHave fun in the tunnels! You know Dan secretly enjoys it, he just can't tell you!
be blessed, Michelle
Umm, no. Not since my dad honked in a tunnel in Pennsylvania in 1964. But I think he either outgrew it or just never went through a tunnel again.. LOL

I have Never Heard of doing such a thing!!! I'd be afraid of startling another car and getting into a head on crash...trapped in a tunnel! (See that's how my mind works!). I can't get out of them fast enough..or over bridges...I HATE bridges!
ReplyDeleteI thought a rednecker would make out in a tunnel?!?!
ReplyDeleteI thinking you're going south.
Never thought of it!
ReplyDeleteLeaning over my husband to honk for him... not worth the grumpy husband for the rest of the trip.
Yes, we always honk. My husband does it with out me even asking now. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a honker. Your pictures remind of some places in the Smokies!
ReplyDeleteI don't honk but I we don't have tunnels here in Florida. I do hear people honking when we're in the Smokey Mountains and I've always found it strange (not redneck).
