Things I’ve learned in the last 3 weeks

3 weeks ago, I started a new job (see previous post).

I’ve learned a lot these past 3 weeks so thought I would share what I’ve learned with you.

  • A 51 year old brain doesn’t learn as fast as a 40 year old brain.
  • A 51 year old brain doesn’t retain what it’s learned like a 40 year old brain.
  • When there are multiple printers to print to, invariably I will click on the one that is down the hall and up a flight of stairs instead of the one that is 10 feet away from me.  Exercise is good for a person, right?
  • I am ever so grateful for the grace that has been afforded to me as I learn. I’m still trying to determine how long I can play the “I’m new here” card.
  • When a person is really busy, they don’t realize they’ve missed lunch.  That is, until they look at the clock and all of a sudden they get instantly hungry.
  • The devil really likes to mess with a person when they step out in faith.
  • Some people do not and will not ever understand why I would leave a “good job” at a college for a “church job”.
  • Having to be at work at 8am is a whole lot easier than being at work at 7am.  I’m even early most mornings – as long as I don’t get behind the neighbor who only drives 50!  Not that it bothers me at all. Smile
  • Every person has their own type of filing system.  Things just aren’t where I would expect them to be.  What’s up with that anyway? Smile
  • And the most important thing I’ve learned in the last three weeks is..I am absolutely where God wants and needs me to be and lovin’ every minute of it!

Mr. O is 4!

Last Tuesday was Mr. O’s 4th birthday!  A 4th birthday is so exciting!  He’s been talking about his birthday for quite a long time. Smile

It seems like just yesterday, he was this size..

3 hours old 003

and now, he is a wonderful, loving, all-boy, all about Toy Story, Cars, trains and army men.

He’s definitely a special little guy!

Happy Birthday Mr. O!

If you could please say a prayer for him tomorrow (Monday) morning, we’d really appreciate it.  He’s having his tonsils taken out.  It’s all for the best but he’s going to be one miserable little guy for a few days.

1+1 = 32 years!

On Thursday DH & I celebrated 32 years together!  The day came and went pretty anti-climatic but it was a good day nonetheless.  I worked, he worked, and we were both ok with that.  I don’t need flowers, gifts, etc. as long as we are undoubtedly together and we are!

32 years of being married to my best friend!  What an incredible joy it is to serve God with you baby!

Little Miss E, our tax day grandbaby is one year old today!

She’s waiting at the front door with brother and sister for her party guests to come.  Smile

Such a cake face! Smile

I think her favorite gift was the baby stroller from Mom & Dad.  She pushed that thing everywhere.

A Finish and new beginnings

Remember way back last summer when I posted about making a bargello quilt?  Here and here?  Well, I finally finished it!

and this little one?  she’s all but finished with this crawling stuff.  She’s upright and making good time.

She’ll be one in a couple of weeks and just as adorable as ever!  And to not brag on just one grand, the other two are a whole heckuva lot of fun as well!

Ya, I know, this has nothing to do with new beginnings, but what’s a post without grandkids once in awhile. Smile

It is beginning to look a lot like Spring around here.  Due to our unseasonably warm month of March, everything seems to be about a month ahead of schedule.  These Quince bushes don’t typically bloom until late April.

I personally have also had a finish and new beginning.

Friday was my last day at the college where I’ve worked for the past 14 years.  It was a bittersweet day for sure.  It’s hard to keep it together when these big guys hug you, say they love you and are going to miss you.  Sad smile

Why did I leave you might ask?  I’ve been getting an itch to make a change for the last 2 – 3 years.  I’ve never been able to put my finger on why as I worked with great people, had a Christian boss, flexibility, etc. so had no reason to want to change.  I never really went looking for anything but was very unsettled and knew in my knower that something else was coming down the pike at some point.  I’m pretty sure I wrote a post about it on here about a year ago (but couldn’t find it).

While we were in Alabama on mission, I received a call from our church’s campus pastor.  We’re a multi-site church, so we have a senior pastor who is typically the one who preaches and then each location has a campus pastor.  If you want to read about our church, you can check it out here.  You can even listen to messages online there.

Pastor Glen asked if I might be interested in coming to work for the church?  I prayed and thought about it and after some back and forth questions and answers with Pastor, I accepted the position.  Just maybe this was why God was unsettling me in my position at the college, so I would be ready to make this jump when the time came.  I firmly believe so.

So, today was my first day!  And as first days go, it went really well. Smile  However, if everything that got dumped in my brain today comes out in correct format, it truly will be a God-given miracle!

Hope your Spring is off to a great beginning as well!
