Garden update

We picked our first beans & sugar peas out of our little garden today.  There’s just nothing better!  Sautéed in a little olive oil and salted with coarse sea salt.  Oh yea!

that is until the tomatoes start coming on.  If the amount of tomatoes is close to the blossoms we’ve had, we’ll have them coming out of our ears.

Look there’s a little guy now.

When I was a kid, we always had a garden and they usually had a row or two of flowers.  My Dad had an incredible green thumb.

We’ve got some kind of ant eating the leaves on the zinnias though and they’re starting on the beans.

Bachelor buttons were always one of my favorites in Dad’s gardens.

If we ever get more than a sprinkle of rain, this view will be loaded with yellow sunflowers by early September.  We grew some last year to use in our niece’s wedding and loved it so much, we decided to do it again.  It sure beats mowing it all!

  2. I was just checking one of my almost almost almost ripe tomatoes this morning. I think I might be having that for dinner : ) We grew two kinds, one cherry which are not quite there but the plant is loaded, and another variety that is a small tomato...we just did pots as we've held up the white flag to the animals in our yard.

Last year a nearby farmer had a sunflower field...it was absolutely spectacular. He has corn there this year which is also good but not pretty like the sunflowers.

  3. Our garden isn't near as good as we would like.
Green beans are still producting, tomotoes are slow starters.
Peas are finished and didn't near produce enough. I missed my fresh lettuce. :(
As for my zinnias, they too were being eaten on. White wooly looking worms. Sevin kills them!
    Happy eating fresh produce!!

  5. Lori, my tomatoe plants are hanging full of green fruit...just waiting for them to ripen. I have had lots of brocolli, beans and peppers. The cabbage looks good too. Your plants look great. I put flowers in my garden too. Blessings!

  7. Hard to beat fresh produce! I filled pots on my deck with tomatoes, red peppers, green beans & peas. We just got back from a long weekend of camping & it looks like a family of rabbits enjoyed a feast b/c all the peas & most of the beans are gone! I did take my first ripe tomato with us to enjoy, aaaah yummy freshness! There are tons not ready yet, can't wait. Hope we get them b/4 the rabbits!
