Early August walk-about

I took a quick walk around the yard tonight.  I’m placing an emphasis on quick as it’s 8 pm and still so stinkin’ hot, humid and buggy, I didn’t dally too long.  Slather yourself in bug spray and come on along!

My droopy hydrangeas.  I don’t think they like the heat either.

I made new cushions and pillows for the porch furniture over the weekend.  I like how it brightened things up.

Lovin’ the lime green sweet potato vine.  It’s one of my favorites along with the King Tut grass below.

We seem to have an overabundance of grasshoppers this year.  They’ve always creeped me out!  As a kid I remember riding my bicycle down a gravel road and they were hopping everywhere around me.  Scarred me for life I tell ya!

Between the grasshoppers, our population explosion of mosquitoes and some weird black moths I’ve never seen before, it’s a plague, I say, a plague! IMG_4113 IMG_4114 IMG_4115

The sedum isn’t quite blooming yet.  I can’t wait for the explosion of color that comes from this plant.  And from a plant that I haven’t managed to kill off in all these years.  You can’t beat that!  Hardy little buggers they are! IMG_4117

Hope you enjoyed your walkabout with me.  We’ll do it again next month.

  5. I'm not a fan of the grasshopper either...one dropped from the sky? on me the other day as I stepped onto the deck and I admit I may have over reacted just a teensy bit : )

You have a beautiful garden...I love the little corner with the bird house.

  6. Cute cushions!!! I hate grasshoppers too---its not like they bite or are slimey---they're just so big and yucky looking!

  8. Your garden is wonderful! You must be good at making sure they are well cared for. I think this is a hard summer for gardens everywhere. My flowers in pots are all done for and I'll probably throw them all out as soon as it's cool enough to go outside!

  9. I loved taking a walk with you. your sweet potato vines have faired better than mine. the squirrels like the moisture in them.

My Sedum looks like your now.

Of course all our stuff is suffering in this heat!

    Keep cool!

  10. I would love to make some cushions for the 6 rocking chairs on my porch, but I'm worried about keeping them clean. It seems like everything on my porch gets covered in a layer of dirt, no matter what I do! What's your secret? lol
