Is your “Bling” dirty?

I love silver jewelry but after awhile it starts to looks so dingy.  I get out the ole silver polishing rag but even that doesn’t take care of it the way I would like.

I used to buy a ready made silver jewelry cleaner but happened to be out and wanted to clean some necklaces so Google here we come.

I found this great homemade solution that did a marvelous job.

You will need

  • dish detergent
  • salt
  • baking soda
  • water
  • aluminum foil

Line a casserole dish with aluminum foil.  The foil does not have to cover the entire bottom but needs to be large enough to accommodate your jewelry.

Heat 1 cup of water in the microwave for 2 minutes.  Pour into dish.

Add 1 tsp. baking soda, 1 tsp. dishwashing liquid & 1 tsp. salt to the dish.  Swirl around to mix together.

Place your silver jewelry in the solution and allow to set for 5 – 10 minutes.
IMG_3642 Remove the jewelry from the mixture and rinse with cool water.  I used a strainer so I didn’t lose anything down the drain.  Not that that’s ever happened before.  Nope, not me!

Buff with a soft cloth or jewelry cloth and your silver jewelry will look like new again!

  1. What a great tip! Thank you.

  2. I'm not a silver girl, but I know someone who is. I will have to pass this along. What a great economical solution.

  3. Great idea, I am going to try this recipe on some of my silver...Hugs

  5. Thank you for the "recipe"...I can never keep my silver jewelry clean and when it comes time to wear it, inevitably I'm in a hurry and it needs cleaning. Now, I'll get it done a little easier. :)
