Soon, very soon, right?

I know I have no room to complain after seeing all the snow the poor east coast is getting but enough already!    I’ve got a major case of the winter blahs and need a Springtime fix in a big way.  Can I get a witness on this one???

Rainbow surprise

DH called me outside late yesterday afternoon to see the rainbow.  Not that a rainbow is such an unusual sight for us but it wasn’t raining nor had it rained all day.

Halloween 09 (7)

Our sermon church this weekend was called “Amazed” and were asked when was the last time God amazed us.   This rainbow really brought it home.  A rainbow and no rain!  Amazing!

When were you last amazed and totally blown away by God?  Was it something in His world?  Was it an experience or event?  or one of those “God coincidences”?

In a fog…

A foggy day pretty much all the way around today.

Fog meteorogically(is that a word?) and in my head.  :{

The silos you see in the first picture are across the field from where we live now on the farm I grew up on.

Playin’ Hooky

It doesn’t matter how old we get, sometimes it’s just plain fun to play hooky!

I love riding motorcycle in autumn but we’ve have had a very wet & cool October so our fall riding has been limited.  It seems like the best days weather-wise have been during the week when we’re working.

This past Wednesday was forecasted to be another cold, rainy day.  However, in the morning, I had to run an errand across campus and it was a beautifully warm and sunny indian summer kind of day.  The weather man sure missed this one!

I was thinking to myself how great it would be if we could just go for a ride but knew Dan was busy with a bunch of different projects.   Not sure if it was mental telepathy or the fact that we’ve been married long enough to think alike, but lo and behold, as I came back in my office there was a message waiting for me saying  “Take the afternoon off and let’s go riding.”  Wow, twist my arm!

Now, before you think I’m somekind of slacker, I didn’t actually play hooky.  I was all legal-like and submitted my absence request for what is called a “personal day” which can be taken anytime on a moments notice.  I couldn’t  think of a better reason to take  a half of one than what was probably going to be the last warm bike ride of the season.

We headed northwest to JoDaviess County.  The trees were at their peak.  The ride did not disappoint, the views were stunning.

You want to see pictures?  Why, of course I’ll share them with you.  I thought you’d never ask.

A beautiful Sunday

It’s been uncharacteristically cool here this summer and today was not exception.  High’s in the 70’s, low humidity, perfect day for a bike ride.

A few highlights from our day…

8-2-09 (3)

I started the day out with a ride in our son, Joe’s, old Rambler wagon.  A definite work in progress.  He bought it in non-running condition out of a barn a mile from here, got it running, sold it and bought it back again.  Other than the engine work it’s all original.

We took a ride with friends towards the river and had lunch at Poopy’s.  The t-shirts say “Poopy’s – if I have to explain it, you wouldn’t understand.”  It’s hard to explain.  How do you describe a bar/restaurant/bike shop/tattoo parlor to someone?  Quite the combination and it’s a big draw for motorcyclists.  They have some of the best burgers around plus you get to check out all the other bikes.  How much better does it get than that?

Poopy’s is in Savanna which sits on the Mississippi River.  This is a view from the Thomson Causeway Recreational area.

The ground near the River is very, very flat.  Despite the typical row crops, this area grows alot of potatoes and melons.

And could someone tell me why this only happens right after you wash the bike?  We’re riding along great guns and poof! the blacktop ends and turns to gravel!  We would have had to backtrack quite a ways so we went on through and only met one truck and trailer that was totally unconcerned about how much dust and how many rocks he pelted us with.  Gotta love it!  It’s all part of the adventure, right?

8-2-09 (29)

We saw and smelled (p-eww) a crop duster working.

We got to cross one of our favorite old bridges.  It sure sounds funny driving across all the wood planks with the bike.

Went to a picnic tonight and came home to four geese in the backyard.  This is a first for us.  There is a creek 1/2 mile south of us which they frequent but have never had them this close to the house.

I hope everyone else’s Sunday was as enjoyable as mine.  Now, to bed and back to work tomorrow.  :(

Last nights sky

Yesterday, I think we spent more time on the bike than we did off of it.  The sky as we were riding over to our son’s for supper was gorgeous.
